Cash scholarships awarded to 10 honorees demonstrating exemplary character during adversity
The recipients for this year’s Jamil Dada Character Excellence Youth Awards, include 10 Riverside County youth who displayed exemplary character while overcoming adversity, such as poverty, child abuse, drug abuse, abandonment and homelessness. Each youth was awarded a scholarship of $2,500 towards their education.
Earlier this year, the Riverside County Probation Department reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The suit pertained to a youth diversion program known as the Youth Accountability Teams (YAT).
Riverside County pulls down more CSAC Challenge awards than any other county
The County of Riverside received five prominent awards from the California State Association of Counties’ (CSAC) 2019 Challenge Awards. Riverside County earned more awards than any other county in the state, including the prestigious Innovation Award, which was one of only two such awards given this year throughout the entire state.
Veterans and dependents get free legal advice on civil matters
The Riverside County Veterans’ Services and Veterans Legal Institute (VLI) now offer free legal clinics for at risk and low income veterans and their dependents.
