Riverside County Supervisors Marion Ashley and Jeff Stone said Friday that they will seek county financial relief for Silver Fire property owners who want to rebuild in the aftermath of the wind-driven inferno.
Banning – The Riverside County Sheriff's Department, in cooperation with the CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department/OES is lifting the Evacuation Order for the communities of Snow Creek, Cabazon, Mt. Edna, and Poppet Flats as of 6:00 PM today. Only local residents in these affected areas will be allowed to repopulate and must have an access pass until further notice.
Low-income residents who have lost their homes in the Silver Fire, or who have had to run their air conditioning units more than usual to avoid harmful smoke, may qualify for one-time assistance from the Community Action Partnership of Riverside County.
Riverside County proclaimed a local emergency today because of the Silver Fire, a step that could make the county eligible to receive disaster funds if state and federal officials recognize the emergency and make assistance available.
Monday (Aug. 12) is the deadline for voters to register and be eligible to cast a ballot in the Aug. 27 mail-ballot election to fill open seats in the Idyllwild Fire Protection District and Rancho California Water District. It is not a countywide election and there will be no established polling places because it is entirely a mail-ballot election.
Anyone interested in running for office in the Nov. 5 general election may file papers for candidacy until 5 p.m. Friday (Aug. 9). If an incumbent fails to file, the deadline is extended for that office, for non-incumbents only, to 5 p.m. Aug. 14.
