Sample ballots and information pamphlets on the way for March 25 election

Approximately  136,000 sample ballots and information pamphlets will start going out to voters  tomorrow (Feb. 13) for the state Senate District 23 special primary election on  March 25.  About half will be mailed initially, with the remainder sent to  voters by sometime early next week.

Candidate filing opens

Anyone interested in running for office in the June 3 primary election may take out candidate filing papers beginning Monday (Feb. 10).  Papers must be filed by 5 p.m. on March 7.  If an incumbent fails to file, the deadline for that office is extended to 5 p.m. on March 12 for everyone except the incumbent.

Larry Ward, Riverside County's Assessor-Clerk-Recorder, announced today that he will not seek re-election to a third term. Ward has been with the office for over 35 years and was appointed to the position by the Board of Supervisors in 2005, when former Assessor Gary Orso retired. He was elected to his first term in 2006.
