Owners of residential or business property in Riverside County have until Aug. 1 to file for unclaimed property tax refunds.
Riverside County’s property assessment roll has eclipsed the previous record set in 2008, reaching a value of $255 billion, which is 5 percent more than last year’s total, Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder Peter Aldana announced today.
With Canyon Lake’s continued refusal to pay almost $2 million owed under a soon-to-expire contract for fire/emergency-medical services, Riverside County notified the city today it intends to withhold a portion of the city’s property-tax share in order to satisfy the city’s mounting debt.

Although average property values in Riverside County increased by over 25 percent in the past year, property taxes for about 45 percent of the residential property owners in the county will grow by less than half of 1 percent this year.
